Arrows in Action - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the opportunity to interview Arrows in Action. We discussed the band’s ‘Arrows in Conversation’ episodes, creating their video for “Failing On Purpose”, merch giveaways, what’s next for the band, and more. Check it out below.

First, thanks for the interview.

Of course, thanks for having us!

You’ve been releasing ‘Arrows In Conversation’ episodes. What were some of your favorite moments of those? Do you have a favorite conversation you’ve had?

Victor - my favorite moment was getting to geek out about one of my favorite bands (Microwave) with Paul from Pinkshift

Matt - overanalyzing Weezer albums with Luke from the Dirty Nil

Jesse - mine was when I got to share crazy tour stories with Dan from the Home Team

You shared a “Failing On Purpose” video walkthrough not long ago. Can you tell me how you got the idea to do it and how it came together?

The song is about failing and trying again until you succeed and since we’re all nerds, we thought that concept tied in well with the idea of replaying a video game level until you conquer it! Since quarantine was preventing us from filming a live video, we thought this would be a fun alternative!

Can you tell me a little about writing and recording “Failing On Purpose”? How long did you work on it?

We started working on “Failing on Purpose” around the same time we started writing “this time” and “honey” and it came together pretty quickly compared to the others - this song really allowed us to dig our heels into the classic fast pop punk sound we grew up listening to and tony was able to sneak in a pretty sick baseline in that second verse as a result.

Do you have a moment that really stuck out to you when you were shooting the video?

When our animator, Rob google earth searched downtown Gainesville and replicated every street, building, and landmark to a tee, we knew we had something really special - we love an homage to our hometown.

You also recently released “Honey”, which you’ve said is your favorite track so far. Why does it hold a special place in your hearts?

“Honey“ took the longest to write so we definitely gave it a lot of attention - the verses are a little darker, which we always love, but we knew that chorus was going to make this our best song yet.

You’ve also been hosting some merch giveaways. How’s  that going? How do you come up with ideas for your merch?

Merch giveaways have been going great, our fans have been super excited about them and the participation has been excellent. When we’re making merch, we just think about what we would want to wear and what would be most comfortable, but really our manager Jacob is the mastermind behind our most recent designs.

What’s on the horizon for the band? Will we hear any new music soon?

We have a few more tricks up our sleeve for 2020 but you can expect a ton of brand new, premium content from us in 2021.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?

Wear your masks, be kind to each other, and thank you for listening!
