Nervous Kids - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the opportunity to interview Nervous Kids. We discussed how Green Day inspired their pursuit of music, what to expect from their upcoming song, collaborating with Wiretap Records, and more. Check it out below.

First, thanks for the interview.

Of course! Thanks for taking the time to interview us.

Can you tell me about how you started the band for those who may be unfamiliar with it? How did you become interested in pursuing music?

I saw Green Day on TV when I was 8 and was instantly obsessed with the idea of being in a band. I joined my first band at 10 and have been pursuing music ever since. The pandemic was the first time I wasn’t in an active band so I started writing a lot on my own and released “Threw Me Away” and “Distance” at the beggining of 2021 under the name Nervous Kids. It took some time to get a full band together, but the band officially formed in 2022 and we’ve been active ever since.

You released your single “Nothing To Prove” last year. Can you tell me more about writing that song?

It’s funny, because I accidentally wrote that riff trying to play “Freak Of Nature” by Heart Attack Man from memory. It started with the riff, and the rest of the song came together pretty quickly. It was one of those songs that kinda just came naturally and didn’t take much thought. I’m super proud of how it came out, definitely one of my top Nervous Kids songs.

Do you plan to release music this year? Is there any chance that you’re working on or have plans to work on an EP or album? If so, what can listeners expect?

Yeah! We actually just got back the mix of a new single that we’re planning to drop soon called “Never Die”. It’s a little bit more experimental than anything Nervous Kids has dropped before so I’m excited for our listeners to hear it. We’re most likely going to keep putting out singles for the time being, but there’s plenty of unreleased material that could make another EP or a full length when the timing is right.

You’ve released a lot of your music through Wiretap. What’s it been like working with them?

It’s been good! It’s nice to have some help with things like PR and pitching to playlists, there’s a lot of stuff they do for promotion that wasn’t even on my radar before we got signed.

What are the chances that we’ll see some of your music on a physical release like cassettes or vinyl? Is that important to the band?

I’d say physical media is very important to the band, considering I’m huge into collecting vinyl and cassettes myself. Vinyl is a big investment and funding is the only reason we haven’t pressed any in all honesty. Cassettes are more likely to be made in the near future. We’re starting small but we definitely want to build up our merch selection this year.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?

Of course, anytime! Keep streaming “Nothing To Prove” and don’t miss us at Programme Skate & Sound in Fullerton, CA on April 19th! Tickets on sale at the link in our Instagram bio.
