Two Story House - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the opportunity to interview Two Story House. We discussed how they started the band, musical influences, upcoming music, physical releases, an upcoming tour with Autoignition, and more. Check it out below.

First, thanks for the interview.

It’s no problem. Thanks for taking the time out to interview us!

Can you tell me how you started the band for those who may be unfamiliar with it? How did you become interested in music?

We started the band because we wanted to play the music that we loved to listen to growing up. We were exposed to a lot of 2000s/90s pop punk like New Found Glory, Blink, etc. when we were kids. It was right before/during the pandemic we started covering Blink, Slick Shoes, and MxPx to lock in what we should sound like.

You have been teasing a new single, “Take The Next Left”. What can people expect from the song?

Lyrically “Take the Next Left”, is a departure from the Demo and “Falling in Line”. “FIL” – and all the other songs from our Demo – is about abuse, loss of self, and accepting that the people in your life drift away. “Next Left” is about finding someone worth going through the difficulties of life with.

You also have a new EP coming out this summer. What can you tell me about it so far?

We’re all super excited about how the EP is shaping up. When we worked on the Demo, we (Cole) wrote the guitar parts with what he could play live, since we didn't have a second guitar, drummer or just general music experience. With the EP we started writing with a second guitar which allowed us to be a lot more creative with leads. We’re naming it Weird Times – we have Aaron (drummer) and Silvio (lead) that really bring the songs from listenable to catchy. We’re really excited and proud that Weird Times is shaping up to be the sound we’ve been looking for since the Demo.

I really liked your newest single “Falling in Line” as well as the demo. What are some of the biggest influences on your sound?

That's awesome, thanks for listening to it. Our biggest influences have to be bands like Blink, early New found Glory, Slick Shoes, Rufio, Lifetime and The Starting Line to name a few. A Lot of that late 90s early 2000s pop punk stuff, we’re huge on the 90s skate punk/Fat Wreck stuff as well.

You worked with Stay Tough Records to put out the demo cassette. How did you end up working with them?

When we just got our Demo out we pitched it to a bunch of people through social media, and Stay Tough was kind enough to not only hear us out, but print out cassettes, have us on Programme several times, and bring us out for our first weekender with Dry Spell! It was a great experience and without Stay Tough, we wouldn’t be where we are right now.

The cassette sold out. Is there any chance that you’ll release more cassettes for the demo and/or the upcoming EP? Would you like to release a vinyl pressing at some point?

We actually have more tapes coming up with Stay Tough! They’re kind enough to manufacture our tapes, and we’ll let everyone know when we get our hands on them.

We’d love to release a vinyl pressing! Weird Times would be a great record to press, and we’re actively looking for someone that wants to put out the EP. If anybody knows someone, let us know.

You’re about to head out on tour with Autoignition. Do you have anything special planned for the live show? What will the set list look like?

We love the dudes from Autoignition. We’re really excited and grateful to have them over in the West Coast for the tour. Sound wise I think we match each other super well. As soon as I heard “This is Moving Forward” we knew they understood the sound. By the time the tour is going along, we’ll have a brand new setlist with songs from Weird Times, so if we play in your town come by and give us a listen. You won’t regret it. :)

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you for having us. Weird Times coming in the summer! Come to a show.
