Kailee Morgue - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the opportunity to interview Kailee Morgue. We discussed collaborating with Mike Shinoda, being featured on the ‘Scream VI’ soundtrack, what to expect from upcoming music, an interest in acting, and more. Check it out below.

Your new song “In My Head” with Mike Shinoda was recently released. Can you tell me how that song came to be and what the writing and recording process was like for it?

‘In My Head’ came about after I made a horror inspired music video for one of my songs called ‘End of My Life’, Mike texted me a few months later saying he was looking for a female vocalist for a song for Scream VI. He thought I’d be perfect for it not only sonically but in aesthetic too since I already have a love for horror movies! It was super fun recording and making this song, this whole thing has been a dream for me.

The song is featured on the ‘Scream VI’ soundtrack. What is it like having a song featured on a big soundtrack like that?

This is actually my first time ever having a song of mine in a movie or show so it’s been so surreal! When I saw the movie I was not expecting to hear my voice over the title sequence, it was an insane moment!

Were you a big fan of the ‘Scream’ movies before this opportunity?

Yes! Scream is actually my favorite horror movie franchise, I’m obsessed with slashers and the 90s so there couldn’t be a better fit for this song. I’ve referenced the Scream movies several times in my visuals, and I have posters up in my apartment, I’m definitely a super fan!

You released a series of teaser videos with Mike Shinoda before the official release. Who came up with the idea for those?

Mike actually completely master minded those teasers! I think they ended up being way cooler than doing a traditional music video and trying to market the song with standard ads or beauty shots.

Your album ‘Girl Next Door’ came out last year. Have you been pleased with the response it’s received so far? What are your thoughts looking back on it now?

Girl Next Door still feels like my baby, it’s been crazy to see the response! It’s honestly very overwhelming in the best way, I finally got to put out a full length project and now I get to perform these songs and hear people singing them back to me! I couldn’t be more grateful.

Will we hear more new music this year? Do you know what we could expect it to sound like?

I really want to focus in on what the next sound is so I’m not fully sure that you’ll hear something by the end of the year but I have a lot of collaborative projects happening! For my own project I’ve been playing with referencing queen and my chem, shooting for the moon with really anthemic big songs!

You also recently starred in The Summer Set’s new music video. Can you tell us more about that experience?

Yeah! The Summer Set video was so random honestly, I don’t really do acting or that type of thing but they told me they wanted it to be very blink-182 in tone and I was immediately interested. It was so fun, a lot of it was improvised with us laughing behind the scenes, it was a fun day for sure.

The Summer Set’s video shows you taking on a role as an actress. Would you like to do more acting in the future?

I would love to get into acting! I wouldn’t want to force myself into that industry since I have a lot of tattoos and a specific look but if certain things came my way that made sense I’d love to give it a shot!

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you so much for having me! Stream Girl Next Door and my new song ‘In My Head’! Thank you for reading this far.
