Brooklane - Sound In The Signals Interview

Isaiah Folk
I recently had the opportunity to interview Brooklane. We discussed the writing and recording process for new song, “Breakaway”, a favorite lyrical moment from the song, how they think fans will connect to the song, how the artwork reflects the song and serves as a reminder to be nice and check in on others, celebrating 2 million streams, the song they think fans should check out more, their upcoming EP, and more. Check it out below.

First, thanks for the interview.

Thank you for having us. We appreciate you taking the time to talk about our new single "Breakaway".

You have plans to release new song, “Breakaway” on April 29th. What can you tell us about the writing and recording process?

So this one is super special to us because for the first time we decided to work with a reputable producer. His name is Andy Karpovck who works alongside Andrew Wade at the Audio Compound. Andy has worked with bands such as Magnolia Park, 408 and others alike. We tracked a rough demo, sent it off to Andy, and collaborated online together to get the final draft of “Breakaway” and we are so stoked on how this turned out.

Do you have a favorite lyrical or musical moment from the song? Why?

The song kind of describes how a toxic relationship can take its toll on someone when they are controlled by them for too long. You start to lose yourself and hold on to a false sense of love. Sometimes they will ignore you to pull you back in so one of my favorite lyrical lines in the song is "Another missed call on your phone is all I'll ever be". We love playing the chorus live because of its driving guitars and energy. I think it will give us a chance to really connect with the crowd and share a relatable moment with a lot of people who think they are alone dealing with something like this.

The artwork is really interesting. Can you tell us more about it?

We felt the Smiley face melting into a palm of a dead toxic hand really reflected the feeling of the song and what it is about. When going through something like this a lot of people wear a fake smile and no one would ever know their hardship. Not only is it fitting for this song, but it will serve as a reminder that no matter who you encounter be nice, ask if your peers are okay, you never know what they are going through. Sometimes all it takes is to ask someone if everything is alright in their lives to save it.

You recently celebrated hitting 2 million streams. How does that feel?

Reaching 2 million streams blew our minds. We never imagined us being a band out in the middle of nowhere getting to a milestone like that and it feels amazing. A lot of grinding to get our name out and hard work went into "Roll with the Punches" and we couldn't be happier with the response and support we received form all of our listeners, we absolutely love and appreciate all of them.

Is there a certain song that you have that you feel like you’d like people to check out more or one that should get more attention than it has so far? Why?

We were just talking about this the other day and we all agreed that it would be the song Ship Wrecked due to the time frame it was released we feel we didn't get to push and promote that song as much as we would have liked to and have been told it was a hidden gem by quite a few people that have religiously listened to our album.

Are you working towards an EP or album currently or any other new songs? What should fans expect?

Yes, are working on a brand new 5 song EP called Stay Toxic. The songs are taking a slightly different direction which will have a newer sound to them much like the newer era of pop-punk yet still keeping the high energy Brooklane sound. We're super excited to release this one as we feel we have grown even more as a band and it really shows on these new songs what we can bring to the table.

Thanks for answering the questions. Do you have anything else that you’d like to add?

Thank you so much for letting us talk about our new track and a little bit of what is to come. We'd just like to add if anyone hasn't yet, please go out and pre-save Breakaway. The link is in our bio; can't wait to see you all out at shows! Much love.
