Wilmette - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the chance to interview Wilmette. The band's debut Anxious Body was produced by Seth Henderson at ABG Studios (Knuckle Puck, Real Friends) and mastered by Kris Crummett (Sleeping With Sirens). Check out the full interview below.

First, thanks for the interview.

Of course! Thanks for having us.

You just released a video for your new single “Winter Stay”. I like the video a lot. What was the video shoot like and who came up with the concept?
The video was super last second actually. We had a concept idea for about a week and the night before we scrapped it. Our bass player Peyton is the one who thought it up the night before and so we ran to party city to get the hats and then to the thrift to find khaki button ups. It’s hard to tell, but this video was shot in windy, 30 degree weather and was extremely hard being out there in shorts and button-ups.

What was the song writing process like for “Winter Stay”? How long did you work on the song and what made you decide to get Safe Bet on the song?
Again with the last seconds, Winter Stay was written about three weeks before we hit the studio and we felt that it was a good depiction of who we are as a band. We are very big Safe Bet fans and have been itching to hear his vocals in a full band environment so we thought it would be perfect to hit him up and it all worked out perfectly.

You have a new EP out in July. You worked with Seth Henderson. What was it like working with him and why did you pick him as a producer for the EP?

He is an insane producer. We have never experienced anyone who can throw so many vocal harmonies at you within seconds. We decided to go through him because of his discography of bands and past work he has done. Around our area, Seth is the highest level of recording you can achieve so we wanted to see what we could sound like through him.

You signed with Mutant League and they’re releasing the new EP. How did it work out for you to be on the label? How has the experience with the label been so far?

For all of us, this was our first band. We dropped our debut EP, “Space to Breathe” in September and we had been pitching it around. We always had an eye on Mutant League and they were one of the first we pitched to. I think our relationship with Nate began in around October/November and we just continued to talk all the way until we had a this new EP recorded out which was in late March. We love Mutant League and Nate is the homie. It is going great and we have never seen a reaction to our music go this well.

Is there a song on the EP you’re really excited for people to hear and why?

We are stoked for everyone to hear the title track, “Anxious Body”. We just filmed another video for it with Alex Zarek and will be available when the EP drops July 19th.

I guess that wraps it up. Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else you would like to add?

Thank you for having us! Just wanted to add a huge thanks to Nate Steinheimer, Alex Zarek, Gino Savarino, Seth Henderson, Kris Crummett, and Tim Hailey for helping this record come to life. Be on the lookout July 19th for our new EP called “Anxious Body.”
