ROAM - Backbone (Quick Album Review)

Roam's Hopeless debut album, Backbone, is a slice of fast-paced, melodic pop/punk. It hits just in time for some pretty dreary winter weather where I'm at and it offers that great sunshine feel that I really enjoy about pop/punk. The songs on Backbone are well written, catchy, and well performed. "Cabin Fever" is a great introduction to this album's sound. I enjoy the super fast pace of "Deadweight". It's a big standout on the album. It really reminds me of something you would hear on a Set Your Goals album and the guest spot from Matt Wilson (Set Your Goals) on the song is just icing on the cake. I also enjoy the more somber songs like the acoustic song, "Tracks". I think you should really enjoy this if you are a fan of Neck Deep or The Story So Far. One drawback to the album is that the band doesn't standout from their peers as much as I would have liked for them to on this album. However, that doesn't hinder the enjoyment of the album if you are a pop/punk fan. A big plus is that everything is produced and mixed really nicely. Overall I think the band has tightened and refined their songwriting some from their previously released material. It's fun, energetic music and it's a nice debut from the band.

*In an attempt to offer more thoughts on and review more singles, mixtapes, and albums we're going to do some "quick reviews". This means you'll get some thoughts on more things, but it probably will not be as in depth as our full fledged reviews will be.
