Homesafe - Homesafe (EP Review)

Ryan Rumchaks, of Knuckle Puck, is having a heck of a year. Knuckle Puck has become one of the biggest pop/punk bands on the rise. Their new EP, While I Stay Secluded, was just released to pretty high praise from most critics. Homesafe is like Rumchaks victory lap. Coming off the heels of While I Stay Secluded comes the self-titled EP from Rumshaks side project.

Here's the cool thing. This EP pretty much plays a really similar vibe to Knuckle Puck. There are minor differences here and there. Some songs come off a little more on the softer side, but there is no denying that it's in the same ball park. If you are a fan of Knuckle Puck then chances are you're going to really enjoy this. Rumshaks switches from bass to guitar for Homesafe. Rumshaks and Tyler Albertson handle vocals for the EP. Albertson plays bass and the band is rounded out by Emanuel Duran on drums.  The track "When You Left Me" showcases some of the slightly more somber elements of Homesafe and also showcases some of the band's similarities with Knuckle Puck. I definitely hear it in some of the ways the vocals are done throughout the song and really the entire EP.

As a whole the project sounds good and I'm really enjoying it. This definitely has potential to be more than a one off EP or "side project" band. I think this band has potential to craft an album that could compete with some of the better emo/punk/pop up and coming bands. This is an interesting project. It's well done and is a good solid set of songs.
