Memphis May Fire - Unconditional (Album Review)

I'll just say it. I've never been the biggest fan of Memphis May Fire. I've listened to every release the band has put out and nothing has ever really grabbed me and held my attention for long. With that being said I went into their newest album Unconditional ready to give the band another chance.

What I discovered is that I'm still not sure the band is for me. I like some of what they do, but still some of it just kind of doesn't appeal to me the way I would like it to. With that being said, as far as their performance, they do a pretty good job accomplishing the sound they are going for. Overall this may be the most impressive I've heard the band sound on an album.

My favorite moments on the album are when the band ditches the generic sounding metalcore and just go for a strong clean vocal performance. "Speechless" may be one of the better songs on the album. It's one of the slower songs and it's impressive for the band. Vocally it might be one of my favorite ones on the album. "Divinity" is a nice closing track. It has a pretty good anthem feel and I can see it being a fan favorite. The band does a fine job on the heavier side of things. The metalcore sound is well done and the screaming is pretty good. It just feels a little too much like I've heard it before too many times. The band really shines when they mix it up and it really helps them stick out from the pack a lot.

Overall I can definitely see this band’s appeal to their fans and music listeners. I think Unconditional may have some of the bands strongest songs. If you are a fan of Memphis May Fire you should really like this one. I think if you haven't enjoyed the band at all you should give this album a listen because it shows the band has some definite potential.
