Sound In The Signals - Issue Of The Month: Archie #1 (July 2015)

It's time for another issue of the month when I pick one issue of from any current running comic series to highlight. For July 2015 I decided to pick Archie issue 1. Read the full feature after the jump.

Archie has been around for a really long time. This series reboot starts fresh and has a really nice approach to the characters. The comic feels hipper than it has in a while and the writing along with the fantastic artwork for this issue kicks off the series in a really big way. This is Riverdale like you've never seen it and I think old fans will enjoy it and I think it's a great jumping on point for a new Archie reader and has big appeal to not only those classic readers but a whole new group of younger readers.

The characters are updated slightly for a more modern look and I think the new character designs have been done really well. It honestly makes the cast of Archie look like they would fit in with groups we've seen from previous and current popular TV shows like Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, or The OC. I think the story has to be good, but this is a similar story we've seen before in various takes on Archie. To me the design updates to match a more current look and feel are essential to make this stick out with some of the Archie stuff of the past. The artwork just hits this series out of the park on the first issue and really does everything it needs to. It's a major success.

Overall this is a great start for this series and I'm excited to see where it goes from here.
