narrowcast. - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the opportunity to interview Joe of narrowcast. ahead of the release of the band’s upcoming song, “Palm Reader” featuring Camille Nolan, which will be released on April 16th. We discussed how he started the new project, how his previous band experience including Transit impacts his writing, what makes “The Ones Who Fell Through” a special song, his favorite lyrics from the song, and more. Check it out below.

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard new music from you. How did you start the new project?

Mat Morin and I had a project called long lost while transit was still a band, we never really stopped writing songs we just kind of evolved our sound and moved in a direction we felt really exciting.

Did your time in Transit impact how you approached this new project in terms of writing and releasing music or any other ways?

Absolutely, I’ve been writing songs for a pretty long time, everything from previous work impacts current work, the same way my hardcore band effected the way I wrote for the first Transit songs.

The Ones Who Fell Through” just came out. Can you tell me about writing the song?

I honestly just wrote what I felt in my heart at the time and the song sort of wrote itself. It’s one of the only times I’ve written the main parts of a song front and back in one sitting.

What made you want to release this song as the first one for this project?

This was just the one we were the most excited about at the time. I'm really excited for the next song we’re putting out soon. I don’t really love any song over another. There's just different reasons why I love each one. The next song is a lot darker and more poetic in my opinion.

I really like your vocal performance on the song. Can you tell me about recording the vocals and how long you spent on them?

I drove to High Point North Carolina and tracked this song in the span of 4 hours with my friend Gage Owens, he is incredible at what he does. The entire process felt very natural, musical tastes are pretty similar, so it all just meshed together really well.

The lyrics for the song are really interesting. Do you have a favorite lyric from this song and why?

It would have to be:

catch a glimpse, a hint of what will be

swallowed by the sea

twenty thousand leagues beneath

our love above our apathy

i’m talking challenger deep

out of the sunlight's reach.”

This line just reminds me how free I feel as a lyricist. Reminds me, that at the end of the day, I am writing these songs for me, more than anyone else.

Are you currently working on more music? Is there any chance that we might hear an EP or album?

More music will be coming out very soon, stay tuned.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you for having me, if you like the music I help create, there should be many more songs to come, thank you from the very bottom of my heart for giving me your time and your attention over the years, it means more to me than anything. You can follow us on social media at narrowcast.band
