Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Issue # 57 (REVIEW)

First, let me say I was (im)patiently waiting for this issue especially after the epic, edge-of-your-seat ending of Issue #56. I was anxious to know what happened to a favorite character of mine after that ending. Sadly the issue was delayed last week, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Issue # 57 finally arrived yesterday!

(General, Mild Spoilers May Follow!)

The cover, like usual, captured my attention immediately. I've been waiting for Leatherhead to grace the comic for a while and I am enjoying his introduction. Of course we don't know much about this version of his character yet, but I'm interested to see how they develop him over this series. Plus I was anxious to see if he had a part in Fugitoid's destruction and if so, what it was exactly. I was also interested to see what happened now that the remaining Ultrom race had been revived (all except one) and who was out to get rid of them.

The Turtles had a lot of explaining to do, even though they were unsure of some of the answers themselves. There's unrest, paranoia, and distrust among the Turtles, Leatherhead, and the Ultrom. It doesn't help when one of the Ultrom's first questions is, "Where is General Krang?". I can't help but be a little excited and interested to see a new, unique view of the Ultrom, unspoiled by General Krang's orders. I also almost can't help but see a little parallelism between the four new Ultrom members and the Turtles in personality and specialty, as well. They work together seemingly, but we suspect that might not last long.

We get to see Leatherhead in action, which surprises the Turtles somewhat and leads Raph to question his ability against Leatherhead's brute strength and resolve. We learn a bit more about Leatherhead's story. We get some relief about Fugitoid, but it's not all great news. We get a closer look at those who were in the cave in the last issue, but it doesn't solve all the mysteries. This issue answers a few questions and leaves us with more! It was a great issue, beautifully illustrated, and it left me wanting to know what that hinted-at next admission will be or perhaps, moreso, the reasoning behind it. As always, we recommend checking this out!
