Trinity - Sound In The Signals Interview
I recently had the opportunity to interview Trinity. We discussed how they formed the band, the writing and recording process for their new demo, musical inspiration, and more. Check it out below.
First, thanks for the interview.
Of course, we are really glad to be doing this. Eamon - Vox/Guitar, Spencer - Guitar, Teej - Bass, Eddie - Drums
Can you tell me how you started the band for those who may be unfamiliar with it? How did you first become interested in music?
Eamon: I was thinking about leaving a previous project that I was in with Tj. Tj had started throwing around the name Trinity, after the super hot babe from The Matrix, and we both agreed that it was a really cool name. Later, me and Tj had added Eddie to the band and we thought we were gonna do some metal-core project. A week before practice me and Tj had wrote a pop punk song for fun together. Soon after I had asked all three of us if we should just do a pop punk band, we all agreed as all of us grew up on pop punk and loved bands like Saves The Day, blink-182 and Green Day. Eddie hearing this added Spencer to the group chat as the both of them had also been talking about doing a pop punk band.
You recently released your new demo. What was the writing and recording process like for it?
Eamon: Usually, me or Spencer write a riff, occasionally Eddie will as well, bring it to practice and jam it out. We used that formula for about 2-3 months as we wrote the demo. I usually go back after we write the song and write lyrics over it.
Eddie: For recording, we recorded instruments all separately in reaper to a click track, which was the first time I’ve ever done that for a band. Then, I went through a bunch of different mixes and we picked one that we liked and tweaked it for each song.
I’ve seen people comparing the demo to both older and current bands like Saves The Day and Koyo. What sounds do you draw inspiration from sonically?
Spencer: I really like the Story So Far, they’re one of my favorite pop punk bands. I also love Rufio.
Eamon: Spencer actually put me onto Story So Far super hard, I didn’t like them as much before but he showed me how dope they were. Otherwise, I grew up on Saves The Day, they’re probably my favorite pop punk band of all time.
Teej: I like Title Fight a lot and Green Day. Green Day’s bass lines inspire me a lot, I wanna be like Mike Dirnt when I grow up.
Eddie: I really love Knockout and Houseboy. Travis Barker inspires me drumming wise.
I really like the song “Everything I’ve Lost”. Can you tell me about writing that song specifically?
Eddie: I wrote the first riff, taught Eamon how to play it and Spencer and the rest of them took it from there.
Teej: We wrote the song over a couple of practices as it was really hard to find a version we all liked, but it ended up being one of our favorite songs.
Eamon: For me, lyrically, that song was really challenging. I wanted it to come from a personal place and putting my feelings onto paper like that was hard to do in a fully faithful way, it also ended up being one of my favorite songs lyrically.
The ending of “Rule Of Thirds” has a really neat transition/ending that’s cool. What made you want to do that?
Eddie: Well, originally we were gonna have the song fade out in the end, during recording we added a lot of vocal layers and I thought it’d sound better if we didn’t fade out. So I made that little 8-bit beat in like thirty minutes for fun.
Is there any chance that you’re planning a physical release for the demo such as CDs, cassettes, or vinyl? How important is having physical media to your band?
Eamon: Yes, we’ve got a few offers for physical media, we are just broke. We will do it soon though as we all do really love physical media.
Spencer: I think physical media is cool because it’s not digital.
Eddie: In the future, we will only do physical. Bring it back.
Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you want to add?
Of course! Thanks so much for interviewing us!
