Trees from Different Angles - Sound In The Signals Interview
I recently had the opportunity to interview Trees from Different Angles. We discussed how they started the band, musical influences, lyrical inspiration, when to expect new music, and more. Check it out below.
First, thanks for the interview. Can you tell me how you started the band for those who may be unfamiliar with it? How did you become interested in music?
The band started up in December of 2025. Back in December of 2024 I wrote and demoed out a handful of songs, with the plan of finding some people to start a band with. After a while, I had resigned to the idea that that may not happen! Then in around June of 2026 my best friend/our drummer Paul moved back to the area from Denver, CO. I approached him about the project, and we both hit the ground running reaching out to old friends to work together. He was able to recruit our bassist Brandon, and our lead guitarist Keith, and I brought in our other guitarist- also named Keith.
What albums or bands were some of your biggest influences when you were finding your sound?
I’ve been interested in/making music for over 30 years. Both of my parents are professional musicians and I had no choice! For this project, I was heavily influenced by bands such as Drug Church, Weezer, MXPX to name a few. Also newer bands like FFO: Chillin kind of inspired me to make more rock oriented music, especially coming from a more emo/hardcore background. There are bits of other influences in there, but I would say those are the main ones!
You recently released your new song “Save Your Money, Buy A Gun”. Can you tell me about writing and recording the song?
‘Save Your Money, Buy a Gun’ was written more recently. It came from the idea of wanting to be a bit more creative with my lyrics, and write a cheeky song about the current state of affairs, without being insufferable or overly political. I wrote it with the help of our rhythm guitarist and it came together over a few hours.
Do you have a favorite lyric or musical moment from the song? Why?
I would say my favorite moment in the song besides the chorus would be the lyrics leading up into it! The verses do a good job of ushering in the chorus but something about “the world is crumbling, but why should I cry. Time to go crash out yeah I’m ready to die” really sums up the meaning being the song!
I really like the song. It’s an interesting juxtaposition with the lyrical themes and upbeat music. What do you want people to take away from the song after they hear it?
My whole mission with music is to hopefully validate at least one person’s life experience. Listening to a song and picking up on a feeling that you thought was specific to you only is a comforting thing. So for this song and every song we make, I want people to feel understood and at home, if that makes any sense at all.
Will you be releasing more music this year? If so, what can you tell us so far? Is there any chance that we will hear an EP or album anytime soon?
Yes! We are going into the studio this June to record with Eric Sauter from Black Heart Sound. We have a 5 song EP comprised of the tunes I wrote throughout 2024-2026. Can’t wait to release it, we are aiming for fall. We may try and drop one more single before that, though!
Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you want to add?
Thank you for reaching out and for the interview.
