Human Error - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the opportunity to interview Gregory Diamond of Human Error. We discussed their new EP, ‘sour chalk water’ and more. Check it out below.

First, thanks for the interview.

Happy to do so. Thanks for reaching out and writing some up about us.

You released your new EP ‘sour chalk water’ recently. Can you tell me about writing and recording the EP?

Writing for this EP started in early 2025. I have a really small amateur home studio where almost all of the writing takes place. I’ll usually send the guys some ideas and parts first. Then they’ll usually come over and we’ll work on them from there until we have either a complete or nearly complete song.

We recorded this EP in August 2025 with Adam Cichocki in Bayonne, NJ. I believe we did it over the span of about 5 or 6 days. I think as a band we’re really starting to find our own sound now and that seemed very clear when we were in the studio because the work flow was seamless and everyone was always on the same page.

What was it like working with Adam Cichocki and what did he bring to this set of songs?

This was the second time we’ve worked with Adam. He also recorded our first EP we released in 2024. We wanted to go back to Adam because we knew he understood our vision and goals and that he would be able to bring that out through the recordings.

Adam brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the recording process which can be super helpful. When making music as a band, you’re mainly used to working with the same individuals. But having a new person come into that circle with excitement can bring a huge slate of new ideas.

Do you have a favorite lyrical or musical moment from the EP? Why?

I think my favorite moment from the EP is the ending of too far down to earth. Coming out of the second chorus there is just this huge drop off into a very mellow, but still upbeat moment. We were able to write a part that expands upon our musical style without feeling out of place.

There’s some really interesting guitar work on it. I like the sound you got for the guitars. How long did you work on getting the sound and what equipment did you use in the studio?

Thank you dude! We mainly used a blend of two amps: a Marshall JMP MKII 100w Lead and a Peavey 5150. There are also a number of parts where we either solely used or blended in a Roland Jazz Chorus 120.

Guitars in general took about 3-4 days and the tones sometimes needed to be adjusted based the part. But the main guitar tone took about 20 to 30 minutes to really nail down. This is where, having worked with Adam before, it was really helpful that he was already familiar with our style and goals.

What do you have coming up after the EP is released?

Right now, we have a show on February 22 in New Brunswick, NJ at Cinco De Mayo w/ Buffout, Sunnyboyy, Living Proof and few more in the pipeline that have yet to be announced.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you want to add?

Appreciate your time and just that we hope everyone checks out sour chalk water out now!
