Nominee - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the chance to interview Nominee. We talked about their split with Dozer, their song "White Water", touring, and more. Check out the full interview after the jump!

You released a split with Dozer on Bandcamp. Nominee contributed the song "White Water". Can you tell me a little about the writing and recording process of the song?

Steve: We wrote White Water right after we got off our west coast tour last fall. It was kinda of a new moment for when the band was developing more of an identity. We did it at Black Room Studios in Georgetown, TX Luke and Joey made it super easy for our band to be ourselves so it was a great first experience in recording with them and coming back into a long ramp up of new material for us.

Why did you pick "White Water" for the split?

White water was definitely top of mind subject matter wise it was something we had all pretty recently experienced and we feel that it was the most cohesive representation of what we were trying to be.

I had the chance to interview Dozer and they brought up that the idea for the split originally came from Nominee. What about Dozer made you want to do a split with them?

If you catch that band live once, you'll totally get it. They're extremely tight and not for nothing but Miles and Kevin totally leave it all out there with their vocal performance. I remember every time i saw them I just liked their band more and more. They also hang and vibe with us super easy so it seemed like the right thing. We are both from Texas but far enough apart to actually help each other grow.

You've been on the road touring this July. How have the shows been and have you been pleased
with the fan reaction?

Shows and fan reaction have honestly been surprising. Chris and myself are from the north east so we had a lot of friends we were looking forward to reconnecting with in our home towns. Shows outside of that were really what surprised us so many cities like Atlanta, Virginia Beach, Lexington treated us way better than we could've imagined. The entire process was a fantastic experience.

You released your EP I Woke Up in 2014. For anyone who hasn't heard that EP what song would you recommend checking out from it as a good introduction to your band?

"Requiem" the opening track I think is the one that most people talk to me about so I would say that one.

I Woke Up has kind of garnered a big cult following especially on Bandcamp where it pops up in
the popular category regularly. How have you guys felt about the response to the EP and are your surprised at all by how people seem to really like it?

Honestly everything been a surprise, we put everything we've got our music with it's the instrumentation or the lyrics so to have people react in a positive way especially in personal way with us feel fantastic.

What else do you have coming up for 2016. Any chance we'll hear new music possibly a full
length or new EP?

We actually just finished recording an EP in Lancaster, PA with Korey Gable a Kaleidoscope Studios. Part of the east coast tour we just did was to do that record, we're hoping to finish it up and have it out sometime this Fall/Early Winter.

I guess that about wraps it up. Thanks again for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else you would like to add?

An Honest Thank You to anyone who's spent time listening to our stuff or supporting us in any way whether it's talking to us after a show, giving us a floor to sleep on or picking up a record it's all noticed and appreciated by us. We'll be touring a lot in the near future so keep an eye out for that and the record we're working on for the fall.
