xoutlastx - Sound In The Signals Interview

📸 @shutterspeed1134_

I recently had the opportunity to interview xoutlastx. We discussed their new debut release, influences, collaborating with Paper Wings Records, the importance of physical media, and more. Check it out below.

First, thanks for the interview.

Thank you for having us!

Your debut project is coming out this week. What can you tell me about it so far?

So yes, our debut release is coming out August 20th and we couldn't be more excited, we've been working on this for the better half of a year now. This whole release is an expression of what it means to be straight edge and the struggles with internal conflict and addiction and overcoming those challenges not only daily but as a lifetime decision to better ourselves and we couldn't be more excited to share it with everyone, plus it’s gots some nasty riffs.

What were some of your biggest musical influences for this new record?

I’d say massive influences is foundation, no right, strong arm, walls of jericho, and plenty more, pulling from all that early metallic hardcore, even some beatdown influence in there as well.

Do you have a song that you’re especially excited for people to hear? Why?

I think personally (Isaiah), hold your breath, the 3rd track on our EP has got to be my favorite. This song just hits all those spots for me, it’s super crazy metallic tremolo harmonies, a stanky breakdown, and a very very strong message about (Cait, vocals/lyrics) "individuals that are stuck in a cycle of addiction that tend to point fingers wanting to cast embarrassment onto people who claim edge. Although they are aware of their own struggles, they choose to do nothing about it. The song is about calling out those individuals urging them to “hold their breath” because their days could very well be numbered by the actions they choose to indulge in."

You’re working with Paper Wings Records for this release. How did you end up working with them?

So I met Damian maybe a year or two ago once his label came back for the second time, and I shot him a message and began working with him with an old project that never came to fruition with a release but was always motivated to work with him despite falling short in the past, so it really was just me kinda being like, "hey I also have this band" lol and we went from there working on art direction and stuff like that. He's been a core part of the operation since the band’s inception.

Will they be releasing physical media such as CDs or cassettes for it at some point? How important is having physical media to you?

100% doing CDs with the initial drop, and working close with another friend of ours, Self Inflicted Records to do 7 inch records as well, cassettes in the future yes, but no game plan for those just yet. In regards to the importance of physical media I think it's something EVERYONE should be collecting if you like music. A cd/record/tape is yours and always will be. There's something about dropping a record on a table or a cd in a player that just feels right, and I swear it sounds better haha. And it grants true ownership, no subscription or internet service needed, no corporation that’s responsible for keeping all your music safe and in one place.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you want to add?

Thanks again for having us!
