Robbery Club - Sound In The Signals Interview

📸 Ethan Barnes

I recently had the opportunity to interview Robbery Club. We discussed the importance of physical media, their new song that is out today, the Buffalo scene, and more. Check it out below.

First, thanks for the interview.

Of course. Thanks for reaching out to us and setting this up.

You recently announced a 7 inch for “Never Better”. Are you excited that your music is getting released on vinyl? How important is physical media to you?

Yeah, we're stoked to give these two songs a special physical release. It's incredibly cool because for the majority of us, this is the first time our music will have made it onto vinyl. We all grew up collecting records and 7 inches and appreciating the layout of the pages and all the thought that goes into it. It's without a doubt been a milestone for us as a band so we're excited to see it come together.

The 7 inch is coming out on Triple Hammer Records. How did you end up working with them?

Last year, Triple Hammer got in contact with us because of a few mutual friends and wanted to put out our previous EP. Torsten who runs the whole thing is quite literally a friend to everyone and so fun to talk to. He's got big ideas and you can tell right away he cares so much about the scene here and uplifting hungry bands. It's very cool to have him in our corner.

“Never Better” sounds great. Where did you record it at and who produced it? Can you tell us about your process?

Thanks. Never Better has seen a dozen or so different versions over the last 8 years. After shelving the song, I knew I wanted to bring it back and give it a proper facelift. We locked ourselves away at GCR and recorded it with Jay Zubricky. It'd be quicker if I told you who he hasn't worked with. Tommy and I put the organ finishing touches on it ourselves months after we finished recording it.

You have a new song coming out May 1st. What can you tell me about it so far?

Yeah, new song on Friday and we're playing a stacked show with Super Flea, Gas Station and Del Paxton the same day. It's a lot more somber than the last one and it's probably the most personal song I've ever written. I wasn't sure if it would ever see the light of day, but the guys really liked it and nudged for it to come out.

You’ve been working on an album. Have you finished that yet and can you give any details on when we might hear it or what to expect from it?

We finished a record last year! The two songs on the 7 inch were a part of those recording sessions. It's the most we ever pushed ourselves as well as each other and we really grew closer because of it. Also, we've been a band for the last 2-3 years, but this record has been a decade in the making. I've never put more of myself into anything and we're extremely proud of it. It should be out in the coming months.

You are from the Buffalo scene. Who are some of your favorite up and coming artists from the area?

The Buffalo scene is always on the up and up. Viewfinders are a great new band that just put out a really solid batch of songs. I'm a huge fan of Personal Style and everyone knows I ride hard for the dudes in Super Flea and Autoignition.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you want to add?

Make art with your friends, forgive your dad and Go Sabres!
