Ferris Wheel Regulars - Sound In The Signals Interview

📸 @the.higares

I recently had the opportunity to interview Ferris Wheel Regulars. We discussed their writing and recording process for their new album, favorite moments from the album, their cassette release
, and more. Check it out below.

You recently released your new album ‘Back in the Jetstream’. Can you tell me about writing and recording it?

It was a long process. Some of these songs are older than when we played our first out-of-town show. Usually, it starts with us just getting together and jamming on a riff until a song somehow forms. Recording was a whole other beast. It took from October 2024 to August 2025 to record it due to scheduling conflicts and just finding time to get together in the studio. Our collective favorite moments from those sessions were adding the little things after the main parts were tracked, such as the piano on Simple Systems and the tambourine on Scarlet. We spent a long time exploring new sounds like the data corrupter pedal. The sounds we got from that found their way on more songs than we all thought they would.

Locally sourcing all aspects of this release was a treat, too. To say we recorded, mixed, and mastered it all in Wichita makes us really proud.

I really like the song “Dragonflies”. Can you tell me about writing that song specifically?

Jack wrote the majority of that song and brought it to us. We stuffed into our old garage space and wrote it in about 2-3 practices. It was nothing too special. We approached it like all of the others and carved it out until it became a song. This was one of the first songs we wrote with the album in mind.

Do you have a favorite lyric or musical moment from the album? Why?

Here’s our collective four-part answer because we couldn’t decide.

Matt: The lead riff from the chorus of Wires Cut for Two is my favorite

Jack: I’m going to have to call a tie between the outro of Scarlet and Trajectory. When we were getting mixes back to review, I found myself replaying those sections frequently.

Luke: All of Moves Like Clouds, I love pieces of music with many contrasting sections to convey different emotions, so this one really does it for me.

Paul: The second half of Trajectory really resonates with me. It changes pace out of nowhere and builds tension until it releases into a wall of sound and carnage. Jack’s lyrics are really pretty on it, too

It seems like there is really good hype around the band and the upcoming album. What do you think it is about your music that makes people connect with it?

We’ve been really flattered with the love we’ve gotten for the album already. It blows our minds that people find time to even listen or to just go to a show. There are millions of others just like us making music and playing shows for their scene. “Scenes” don't end at the city limits, and it takes all of us to keep whatever this is alive. We do it for each other because we care.

Can we expect a physical release for the album? Is there any chance that you’ll release CDs, cassettes, or vinyl?

We are working with Hunk Of Plastic Records on a cassette release for the album. We plan on sourcing CDs locally and hope to do a vinyl pressing someday if we ever find the money.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you want to add?

Paul: I just want to give a shoutout to everyone who ever let us crash on a couch or the floor while on the road. Much love to our friends in Pomfret, In Shining Armour, A Modest Proposal, and to the many others whom we’ve met along the way. Thanks to those who buy merch and go to shows. It takes all of us to have a scene, and it’s never been better to be from Wichita, KS.

Matt: Having the opportunity to share our art with audiences that appreciate our craft is the most gratifying thing that I could ask for. The love we have already received during this album rollout has been immense, and I cannot be more excited to take our music on the road this year. I love making music with my friends, and I have no plans of stopping anytime soon.

Luke: I love making music with my friends, and I love sharing it with everyone. The reception of this new album has been awesome. We are so proud of how this one turned out. Show someone younger than you some cool music, or teach someone younger than you how to make cool music.

Jack: This band has led me to a lot of lifelong friends, and I cannot wait to see where this album takes us. I am lucky to be able to create music I am so proud of with people who are on the same wavelength. These guys are my best friends and are wonderful pieces to this structure we call FWR.
