Two Story House - Sound In The Signals Interview
I recently had the opportunity to interview Two Story House. We discussed how they worked with Ben Hughes of Stateside on their new EP, lyrical inspiration, artwork, and more. Check it out below.
First, thanks for the interview.
Of course! Thanks for having us on again.
You recently announced your EP ‘Brace For Impact’. I saw that you recorded with Ben Hughes from Stateside. What was the recording process like for this EP?
Having Ben produce and mix our EP was a great experience. He originally reached out to us to record our single "Take The Next Left", and since then it's been a lot of fun working with him. We all instantly clicked, which made the whole process super smooth. We had to do some decent re-writing for the lyrics like completely different melodies for "A Clean Start" and "Brace For Impact", and we play half a step down live to accommodate for my vocal range.
What does Ben bring to the songs to help elevate them?
After recording our single with him, he knew where we wanted our sound to go, and helped us perfect the sound of the guitars to exactly where we wanted it to be.
You also recently released your new song “A Clean Start”. Can you tell me about writing that song? What was your lyrical inspiration?
The lyrics for "A Clean Start" had to do with processing a long-time relationship, and the good and bad that comes with processing it. The lyrics reflect on what that relationship was about, what mattered to me, and how much of what happened is still being processed. A lot of regret from both sides and a lot of hindsight now.
Do you have a favorite musical or lyrical moment from the EP? Why?
We all love playing "Not Here, But Somewhere" live. We play it straight after our intro in shows and it gets the crowd moving. The energy of the song is really fun to play live, and we think that it's going to be a lot of people's favorite song of ours.
I really like the EP artwork. Who came up with the concept for it and designed it?
@chrism.wilson did the art for our cover, and it came out super sick. We gave him some ideas for what we wanted the cover to be and he implemented it in a really cool way.
I know the last time we talked you said the EP was going to be titled ‘Weird Times’. What made you decide to change the title to ‘Brace For Impact’?
We wanted one of our songs in the EP to be the title song, and we chose "Brace For Impact". We didn't really know where to go with "Weird Times", which also was a shortened version of our original title, "Weird Times at Werblow High". We thought having a title song for the EP sounded a lot better than "Weird Times".
Can we expect a physical release for the EP such as cassettes, CDs, or vinyl?
Yes, we have cassettes and vinyl coming soon, we'll keep everyone updated on that when we get our hands on it.
Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?
Thanks again for having us, we appreciate what you do for the scene and for interviewing us again. We're super excited for everyone to listen to the EP, coming out December 5th.
