GoodGrief - Sound In The Signals Interview

We recently had the opportunity to interview GoodGrief, which features former members of You Know The Drill. We discussed forming the new band, recording their debut single, what’s next for the band, and more. Check it out below.

First, thanks for the interview.

Hello! Thank you for having me!

For those who aren’t familiar with you, or your previous band You Know The Drill, can you tell me how you got back together and formed GoodGrief and what made you want to start a new band?

Well it’s only me and Damo (Bass) from You Know The Drill in GoodGrief and we’ve been best friends since we were 11 so we’ve never really been apart since the band split. We even live together now since YKTD split haha, but we always wanted to do something more, it just took a pandemic for us to actually stop procrastinating and start writing some music and it all sort of happened organically from there!

You just released your new song “Worth It”. It’s a great summer song. I can see some of the influences from your old band, but it feels like something new and exciting. What was the writing process like for the song?

Thanks for the kind words! Worth It was fully intended to be a bit of a summer time bop. It was the first track we wrote for this project and we went in with the mindset of don’t overthink it, don’t over complicate it, just enjoy it and that’s basically also the whole ethos behind GoodGrief.

It was also written and recorded entirely in my bedroom which is pretty chill, keeping it DIY!

Is the new single a good representation of the band’s sound?

It is in a way, but we’re also not limiting ourselves to that particular sound. I think Worth It is a good track to transition from YKTD to GoodGrief, but we plan on mixing it up and keeping things interesting on future tracks!

You teased a new song on Instagram as “GG track 3”. What can you tell me about that song?

So we’ve already got track 2 fully written and currently being mixed, so what you’ve heard on that little Instagram clip is a taste of what’s to come from our third track. It’s a completely different vibe to Worth It and Track 2 (it does have a name but that’s still secret for now) but I think people will still be really into it!

Do you have any plans for more new music any time soon after seeing the positive reception for the new song? Is there any chance that you’re working on an EP or album?

No plans for an EP or album. We’re taking it track by track for now, just writing, recording and releasing as we do them! As I mentioned in the previous question, Track 2 isn’t too far off being ready for release so definitely keep your eyes and ears peeled for that!

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?

It’s been an absolute pleasure, Sound In The Signals have always been supportive of YKTD and it’s so kind of you to reach out to us for our first GoodGrief interview.

Just wanna say thank you to anyone reading this and to anyone who has checked out our music. We are @goodgriefsux on Instagram and Twitter, go and follow to be in the know for when Track 2 drops!
