The Cool Kids - "Running Man" Feat. Maxo Kream (Song Review)

Personally, I consider The Cool Kids one of the greatest rap duos of all time. Their EP The Bake Sale was 100% all killer, no filler. They really were one of the first rap waves to utilize the Internet to become a sensation. After an almost-reunion that resulted in a couple songs (one of which is "Computer School") Chuck and Mike have officially returned with a new album due out in 2017 and the first single "Running Man" featuring Maxo Kream. This is essentially the perfect song from the duo to launch their official reunion. The beat has that classic Cool Kids vibe while showing some of the progression Chuck Inglish has made over the years. Sir Michael Rocks' verse on this is some of his best rapped lines in quite a long time. He starts off with a very similar flow that we all remember from the early era of The Cool Kids and progresses towards some of his more current rapping flow and style. It's a nice mix. The lyrics about the trend of current rappers wearing metal shirts are really cool. Chuck Inglish handles more of this song as he has a verse and handles the choruses. Chuck's verse, delivered in his signature flow, references Prince and some various wrestlers. It's pretty fire how he puts it all together nicely. Maxo Kream comes with a lot of personality with his verse and fits nicely on the song. It's cool to see The Cool Kids bringing someone they influenced onto this track. Overall, this is a really solid track. It sounds like The Cool Kids in the best way possible. There are hints of progression in their sound, but it maintains what I've always enjoyed about the duo. For me, this is must hear song and easily one of my favorites of the year.
