Taking Back Sunday - "Tidal Wave" (Song Review)

Taking Back Sunday's new song "Tidal Wave" is an interesting affair. It leans heavily on The Clash meets Ramones vibe in a way that is both good and really surprising. You kind of expect TBS to have the sound they've been most known for and helped popularize since the early 2000s. They have sprinkled in experimentation here and there, but they've mostly relied on their tried and true emo/punk sound. "Tidal Wave" is an energetic song that pumps me up as a listener and it's very enjoyable. The drums have a stand up and call to action feel while the guitar work has that classic punk attack. Lazzara sounds like he's channeling his inner Joe Strummer to the max while adding a touch of Joey Ramone in for good measure. It's a very different song for TBS and this far into their career it's an interesting move. I commend them for trying something different and expanding their sound. It comes off as one of their more energetic singles in a while. This is different, but in a neat way. I like to hear the band taking chances on their first single off the upcoming album, Tidal Wave. It's exciting to think that the album might be one of the more interesting albums from TBS in quite a while. Until then this new song leaves a good first impression of this album. It's surprising, fun, and well worth checking out!
