Bygone Days - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the chance to interview Bygone Days. Check out the full interview after the jump!

For those note familiar with your band how did you guys get into music and get together and form Bygone Days?
Steve Perrino: Bygone Days originated as an acoustic project I had alongside my other band, Envoi. In the past I have always been the vocalist in all my bands, but in Envoi I just play guitar, so I decided to make Bygone Days a band because I wanted to start singing in a band again. Joe Botta (Bass) and Dave Tirpak (Guitar) also play in Envoi, and Garrett (Drums) also plays in the Cleveland local We Were Kids.

I know from your Facebook you guys are currently in the studio working on your upcoming release. What can people expect from these new songs and do you guys have a tentative release date yet?
Yep! We are about finished recording it and we’ll be getting it mixed and mastered in the next couple weeks. The upcoming release is going to feature a lot of diversity in the music and songwriting, which is something I always wanted to strive for in an album. I’d say there’s a good mixture of Pop, Rock, Pop Punk. If all goes according to plan, it will be released in late March/early April.

What has been your favorite part of the recording process so far and what has been one of the more challenging parts of the process?
The most challenging part was definitely getting my vocals ready to record. I must have re-wrote the lyrics 100 times before settling with them, but now that they are completed I can say that recording the vocals was my favorite part of the recording process. It really tied the recordings together, and was what officially made me and the rest of the band very confident that this CD will be something we’ll be very proud of.

Do you guys have a title or a tentative title for the new album?
The title of the album will be “Wearing Thin”.

You released your single "Denial" toward the end of last year.  What has the response been like to the song so far and what made you decide to pick "Denial" as the first single?
The response to “Denial” was fantastic; we are very lucky to have so many friends that support and enjoy our music. I definitely think it was a good song to release to get people interested in the upcoming CD. “Denial” was written first and was intended to be a stand-alone single, but it will be on “Wearing Thin”.

Can you tell me a little about writing process in particular for "Denial" How long did you work on the song and what was your favorite part of writing the song?
Over the summer Envoi went on a 2-week tour with The Orphan, The Poet, Artifex Pereo, and Icarus The Owl. All of which have outstanding vocalists. Touring with those amazing musicians really inspired me to start writing my own songs again, and a few friends in the past have always told me that my acoustic songs would translate well into a full-band application. So towards the end of July when we got back form the tour, I wrote and recorded “Denial” as a full-band and released it to kick-off the new project.

I guess that about wraps it up. Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Thanks again for the interview. We are beyond excited to get this CD released and hope everyone reading will keep in touch and check it out when it’s released in early Spring!
