Last False Hope - Dig Nails Deep (Album Review)

Like many, I've been waiting and anticipating what the debut album of Last False Hope would sound like. This release was originally titled Methlehem then re-titled Dig Nails Deep (the track Methlehemn does appear on the album). It had a couple delays from the original proposed release date so when I finally opened my e-mail and saw that I had received the review copy I was definitely more than interested to see how it turned out.

First, I think this album is a good combination of producer and artist. Shooter Jennings produced and edited this release and it's clear he really understood what the band wanted to do with the album. This is a much more fleshed out and realized sound for Last False Hope. Their EP, The Shape Of Bluegrass To Come, was a nice introduction but this album is far more successful in merging the elements the group brings to their dynamic sound. It's a much more dynamic set of songs and it really shows the growth of the band over the last few years.

One thing I really enjoy about the album is the vibe. It mixes hardcore and country elements in a way that really works and it creates some interesting paces throughout the album and in songs. Slow moving songs can feel both intense and fast-paced at the same time due in part to the way the vocals and instruments are used. The vocal production suits the album perfectly. Raw vocals and the way they are done on album like this can make it or break it, but I think the band succeeded and it comes out sounding good.

This is great for fans who are interested in multiple genres. This is the type of album you could enjoy if you like roots or country music but also something you could enjoy if you lean more towards the punk and rock genres. Overall Last False Hope has made a truly standout album for the year. It's a really impressive debut and I would definitely recommend checking it out.
