Tenacious D - Vinyl Review

This year marks the twelve year anniversary of Tenacious D's self titled debut album and they are celebrating with a vinyl repress of the album. Longtime fans of The D who missed out on the initial vinyl release can now rest easy and grab the album at a reasonable price instead of the inflated online prices that have plagued them for years.

With vinyl becoming more and more popular, most sought after albums are getting repress treatments, but that hasn't always been a good thing. Frequently we hear stories of labels putting out sub par releases with bad sound quality or cheaply done jackets and liner notes. Fortunately that is not the case with this release.

The album is pressed on two 180 gram LPs and the sound quality is very good. You might think being a comedy album the sound quality wouldn't be that important, but the full band songs feature work from some great musicians who really shine on vinyl. The album is housed in a nice glossy gatefold jacket made from thick card stock and features all of the original artwork. The inside of the gatefold has the track listing, album information and thanks from the band. Also included in the package is a digital download card for the album plus a song recorded just for this release “Pat Riley”.

The only thing missing from this release is a lyric sheet. With this being such a nice release its a little surprising that it was left out, but it's really the only misstep from the label. Overall, this a great reissue that any fan of Tenacious D will enjoy and perhaps the only question about the release is, with it being so close, why was it not a record store day release?
