Jack Mushroom - Interview With Sound In The Signals

I recently had the chance to interview Jack Mushroom. We discuss his upcoming album, Odd Future, and various other things. Click READ MORE to check it out!

For those unfamiliar you are associated with Odd Future. How did you meet up with the people in Odd Future and how are you associated with them? How did you get interested in hip hop?

Jack Mushroom: A lot of people think I'm an unofficial member from OF and just a close friend but that isn't true. I'M FROM ODD FUTURE and I have been for awhile I'm just now getting some shine end of story…

I met Tyler at the end of 2008 when I first came back to LA because he was friends with my Brother "Skoolie" but I started hanging with him and everyone else at the end of 2009 beginning of 2010.

I started rapping because I hated Skoolie telling me I have no talent and I'll always be labeled as "Skoolie's little brother" I wanted a name for myself so I started writing lyrics. I rapped them for my brother and then for one of My Best friend's Skyler so after a day of skating and hanging on the block with the gang we all went back to Tacos house and Skyler told Tyler and everyone they need to hear how sick I could spit. We went inside the studio I recited some verses I wrote for them to hear. They all said I was really good so I started recording and releasing songs on Twitter. I put out a verse named "MORGUE" it hit 35,000 views and I made it to a bunch of known blogs including a Magazine in Holland called "iloveFake" and I Recently made it into "XXL" magazine even though it was bullshit ass article on me It still feels good to be in that shit.

You are currently working on your first release One Up and you’ve released a couple tracks from that. What can people expect from the release and who are you working with on it production wise and when do you think you’ll release it?

At first "ONE UP" was going to be a mixtape but I thought about it and decided to make it an album because you can make a lot of forgettable mixtapes but no one ever forgets a great album. Its going to have a completely different sound to it just know that. The tracks produced on there are by Tyler, Cobra Status, Loofy, and The StereoHype

You released the album artwork for One Up recently on your twitter. I really thought it looked cool. Who designed the artwork and what made you decide to go with that artwork?

I changed the artwork because it just didn’t have that image I want to paint in your mind when you listen to "One Up" So Cobra Status one of my main producers drew me that album cover to give you that image of the complex crazy raw shit that will be on the album.

You were recently featured on Skoolie’s new mixtape The Juice. I’ve known Skoolie since back in the 90’s Kids days and I know he has been working on The Juice for a while. How did you end up on the project and can you give me the details on the recording process of the song?

Skoolie is my blood brother.... When we were making and recording "Brotherly Love" it wasn’t hard for me to write my verses because I already don’t like him so it was easy putting together some stuff to insult him with on his own song.

What you’ve released so far has gotten really positive response from Odd Future fans and the hip hop world. What would you like to accomplish with your music?

I would like to accomplish staying out of school but also not being a Fuck up. Making music is the only thing I'm good at doing besides playing video games and I love doing it, I can live in a whole different world through my songs its cool as fuck.

I read that you have a currently unreleased track called “Hitler” that people are really interested to hear. Can you tell me a little about that track and when you might release it?

There isn't much to say about “HITLER” besides it's F*CKING AMAZING!
