Dead In Another Dimension - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the opportunity to interview Dead In Another Dimension. We discussed early interest in music, writing and recording new song, “Well Damn Jackie, I Can't Control the Weather”, songwriting, lyrical inspiration, and more. Check it out below.

First, thanks for the interview.

Thank you for the opportunity.

Can you tell me how you got together and formed the band for those who may be unfamiliar? How did you initially become interested in music?

To put it simply, there is no band. I write, record, and produce everything myself. I started with the idea of having a band, but I couldn’t seem to bring it to fruition. Due heavily to my small town lacking musicians, and a market. So, inspired by the idea of Caleb Shomo, doing everything for Beartooth and filling the gaps in later, I just kinda went with it.

I guess I’ve always had a passion for music. As long as I can remember, but I used to sit around all day as a little kid and watch MTV, or a Poison VHS tape with all their music videos and a couple live videos and interviews of the band. It looked fun, and I thought they were so cool and music has always made me feel in a way that words just don’t cut.

You recently released your new song, “Well Damn Jackie, I Can't Control the Weather”. Can you tell me about the writing and recording process for the song?

I came up with the lyrics and melody to the chorus really late one night when I was just hanging out, so I punched in a rough take of it to keep the idea. I found it really catchy, and it stuck with me for a couple months just floating around in my head. I decided that I just HAD to sit down and finish it. I wrote an instrumental around the chorus and then added lyrics. The lyrics honestly just came to me as I was recording. It didn’t take much thought for this one. Just a fun catchy song!

Do you usually start with lyrics or music first?

Sometimes I’ll come up with a line in my head, that will spark instrumental idea for the part, which I can then build music piece by piece like a puzzle. But for my entire first EP “Chemicals and Perspectives” I started with the music. And most recently I’ve been starting with the music.

What are some of the lyrical themes of the song?

It’s about a toxic relationship, they’re both bad for each other and arguably, not very good people in general.

What do you have coming up for the remainder of the year? Is there any chance that you’re working toward an EP or album?

There’s not a lot I can give away right now, but there’s definitely gonna be a new single before the end of the year. Not currently working towards an EP or an album.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?

Thanks again for having me, I appreciate the opportunity and I’d love for everybody to go stream the new single!
