You Blew It! - Keep Doing What You're Doing (Album Review)

You Blew It! has been on my radar for quite a while. Their debut album Grow Up, Dude made my best of 2012 list. It was an extremely solid album. The hype and anticipation around their new album Keep Doing What You're Doing has lit up blogs and websites for the last couple of months. With releases like this it always goes one of two ways. Either the band lives up to the hype or they fall short. In the case of You Blew It! they've lived up to the hype plus exceeded expectations on Keep Doing What You're Doing.

The group enlisted Evan Weiss (Into It. Over It.) to produce the new album and it seems to be a match made in heaven. The improvements on the way the band recorded the album are instantly noticeable, which is saying a lot because Grow Up, Dude sounded pretty good as well. This album sounds great. Production wise I couldn't ask for anything else. The band keeps the sound they are known for and the album sounds a lot like Grow Up, Dude. It's improved enough to not lose what was good about the sound of Grow Up, Dude, but it also brings out the best of the bands ability and steps up the sound quite a bit.

Song wise the band continues to write great music. Keep Doing What You're Doing is filled with great, catchy songs that have a brooding intensity and are instantly likeable. Yeah, the band has been occasionally compared to American Football and some of the mid-late 90s "emo" bands, but with this album I'd say even those bands could be a little envious of songs like "Award Of The Award Year" and "You & Me & Me". "Award Of The Award Year" is the second song on the album. Lyrically and vocally the song just delivers on the highest level. The guitars sound great and the entire song is well constructed. Honestly the entire album is filled with songs like that. The songs showcase the bands uncanny ability to create song after song of interesting music. It's the kind of album that after each song I said to myself that it can't get any better than the last track, but it did. Listen to the driving, catchy guitars on "House Arrest" and tell me they don't get stuck in your head for a few days.

With Keep Doing what You're Doing, You Blew It! has created a fantastic album. It’s one that I'm sure will showcase why the band has been the talk of the Internet lately. It's a pretty stellar album that will no doubt launch the group to a new level. I wouldn't be surprised if by summer this band hasn't doubled their current fanbase. This album is just that good.
