Old Flame/Ready Set Reset - Two Sides To Every Story (Review)

Broken Heart Records new series Two Sides To Every Story is a really cool project focusing on unsigned bands. The first two artists to be featured in this new series are Old Flame and Ready Set Reset. Old Flame has one song on the split and Ready Set Reset has two.

Both bands have really great sounds. I think this split is well balanced as the tracks compliment each other well. I think the selection of these two artists is a pretty solid start for this series. Old Flame features members of pretty well known bands Houston Calls and Paulson.  Ready Set Reset is described on Broken Heart as "throwback" pop/punk and I think that's a fair statement. If you are a fan of early-mid 2000s pop/punk you should really enjoy it. I like both of the bands featured. Ready Set Reset honestly sounds like they could have been plucked for the early Drive Thru Records roster. I'm a fan of the sound and found the tracks instantly enjoyable. Old Flame is a female fronted band and has more of an alternative/indie rock sound. I hadn't heard Old Flame prior to getting the 7" and I really enjoyed the song a lot.

The sleeve for this release is nice. It's a fold over with printing on both sides. The inside printing includes lyrics and thanks. The cover art is a really interesting photo. The 7 inch is black and the labels are off white. I really like how the labels look with the record. Releases like this have a great aesthetic. Broken Heart Records has also kept this at an affordable price. I think $5.99 for a 7 inch and a digital download is a really good deal. The digital download provides high quality mp3's. It also comes with an extra Old Flame song that is not on the 7". This gives you the opportunity to hear two tracks from each artist. The pressing is limited to 300. The sound quality of the record is superb. Basically anything this label has released has sounded great so this really continues the trend of high quality sound.

This is a really cool start to this series. I'm excited to see what Broken Heart Records continues to do with it. Series like this are awesome and a really great way to find new artists. It also gives artists a chance to have a project that is not only released by a well established label, but they also get the opportunity to have their music released on vinyl. The inclusion of a digital download for all the tracks is always welcomed. This is a great introduction to these artists and a really impressive start to this series. Definitely check this out.
