Miracle Man - Sound In The Signals Interview

First, thanks for the interview.

For anyone who is not familiar, you used to be in New You. What happened with New You and how did you end up forming Miracle Man?
Nothing dramatic. Lots of demos that went unfinished. We sort of collectively lost enthusiasm for New You at the same time. Technically the band isn't broken up so who knows what may happen there someday. I took a break from writing music after that but found that I still had a burning desire to pursue loud and catchy rock songs, and a solo project seemed like the fastest way to accomplish that. Thus, Miracle Man was born.
You recently released "I'm A Rocker (So What?) b/w Luv Song". Can you tell us about the writing process?
So I write and record just about everything in my apartment and then send it to Cody Ratley (Shamewave, World I Hate) who then tracks the sickest drums in the world. He sends it back to me and I re-track all of my parts to the new drums. Then I send it back to him because he's also an incredible mixing and mastering engineer. Voila, a Miracle Man single now exists.
I really like the lyrics for “I'm A Rocker (So What?)”. Can you tell me more about the inspiration behind them?
I like taking a somewhat tongue-in-cheek approach to lyrics on certain songs. I've had this silly idea for a t-shirt that says "I'm a rocker...so what?" on it for several years now but never made it happen. So I decided to channel that idea into a song because frankly the rockers of the world have been sorely needing an anthem. Now they have one, and they are welcome. Maybe I'll still make the shirt too.
Sonically, I hear some similarities between this new project and New You, but there are also some differences. What are some of the new influences that you’re bringing into your new music?
I have a deep and intense love of catchy guitar rock music, so you're going to hear that in a major way in any project I do. New You channeled that into ’90s alt rock worship i.e. Superdrag, Doughboys and Sugar. For Miracle Man, I am aiming for a more stripped down and slightly edgier punk-influenced approach, channeling my love for the Ramones in particular or Spiritual Cramp for a more modern example. I like to add some post punk flair with the lead guitar from time to time as well. The chorus pedal stays on at all times.
Can we expect to hear more new music this year? If so, what can you tell us so far?
Yeah, definitely. I'm always writing and demoing material. I'm aiming to release another single or so and then put out a larger format release of some kind. I've also started gigging with some friends filling out the sound for a live environment and having a blast doing that.
Do you have plans to release CDs or cassettes at some point?
I love physical media and will absolutely be looking to make this happen on a larger format release when the time comes. Stay tuned.
